HEALTH advice will be available around the clock during the Christmas period through a helpline number.
Murrumbidgee Local Health District clinical nurse consultant for emergency / critical care, Audas Grant, said parents and carers should be aware of the healthdirect Australia number.
Calling 1800 022 222, parents and carers can access important health advice 24 hours a day.
“It can be very distressing for families when children get sick while travelling, but by calling healthdirect Australia, parents can receive health advice from registered nurses on the line,” Mr Grant said.
“It is important to stress that people with a health emergency should still call Triple Zero, but for other health concerns healthdirect Australia is the number to call at any time.”
Calls are answered by registered nurses and provides support and reassurance to families.
Nurses can access up-to-date computer-based clinical resources and a directory of local services and facilities, and provide advice about what to do and where to go to seek follow-up treatment.
Calls to healthdirect Australia are free from landlines, although charges will apply from a mobile phone.
More information is available online at the healthdirect website.
