A SAD week this past week for the Temora Greyhound community as we have seen the passing of long-time friends of the Temora club in Phillip Prest and Lois Woods. Both will be sadly missed by all associated with the sport of greyhounds.
Temora races this Friday night and with the expected heat wave conditions we will start at 8pm for the first race and kennelling will be 6.30 to 7.15 pm.
Every precaution by owners and trainers should be taken when travelling to Temora this Friday as we are currently experiencing these heat wave conditions, so bring plenty of electrolytes, water and even ice for your dog’s trip.
The Temora Club will be undertaking everything possible to care for human and animal on Friday night.
In other news at the track a brand new 110,000 litre water tank has been constructed and is full of water for our future track water needs.
We have plans for a dam to be put in over the back in the next couple of months with water running into it from the council easement and when this work is completed, the track will not be solely reliant on the council effluent water system as we have been for years.
When this project is completed the Temora track will reduce its need for the effluent water and rely on our new water from the dam, thus further reducing our track running costs and the expense of the GBOTA.
Just another long-term step in the right direction for the Temora track and industry participants and the GBOTA.
Temora is also excited to announce our March Cup Carnival which will be held on March 1, 4 and 9.
Our March 9 meeting will be fully covered by the TAB and will be shown on Sky 1 in the Sunday twilight time slot.
This year the Cup program is highlighted by the fact the winner of the Cup Final will receive $10,000 to the winner, a huge effort for all concerned with the track and again we thank our sponsors for helping us put this together.
Temora has hopefully given a bit of everything to all participants to consider in this Carnival and for me another race to mention is the 4-year-old and over race for any grade of dog over the 330m, which should attract a lot of talent.
This race is planned as a straight out race on our Cup final night as well, so let’s hope we see some of the past stars of the track who may be reaching their twilight years but they are not forgotten.
Tickets are selling well in the Temora Mega Monster raffle and are still available, remember someone will win a new car on our Cup Final night as that is when the raffle will be drawn, so hurry up if you would like a ticket.
Temora also thanks all the people and businesses for their support that have purchased tickets. Good luck to everyone.
All details about the Cup Carnival can be found on our website www.greyhoundstemora.com
You can also make contact with me on 0457 340 850 or the track 02 6977 1950 and we will send or email you out a flyer.
I look forward to seeing everyone during this year’s wonderful Cup carnival.
